Street Sense

Since 2003 vendors for Street Sense have been selling their newspaper in  D.C. and many of them have a preference for specific areas of distribution.  Reginald Black, for instance,  likes to sell his near Capitol Hill while others prefer Tenley Town, Dupont Circle and many other highly trafficked areas in D.C.  The vendors expressed a great deal of pride in the fact that they make  their money off of their very own paper which they feel represents their unique perspectives and values. Eventhough, some stated during the interview, it is not enough to put them on the Forbe’s list they are quite  capable of potentially earning 300 to 400 dollars per month selling their papers.

Love The Run You’re With

On February 28, 2010 Pacer’s annual 5k run Love the Run You’re With was held. Valentines day was the date of the original event but because of harsh weather conditions due to heavy snowfall it was canceled. Although the race was rescheduled there was a huge turnout and the racers seemed to be happy that the run had a chance to happen. People arrived very early that morning to prepare for the event. It had a very fun theme. People with red tags to signify that they were in a relationship, yellow tags for its complicated, and green tags for the single and ready to mingle, all ran side by side.

Solar Meters

Over the next three months a pilot program will be in effect for these new solar powered meters. Fifty of these meters will be installed in the Washington D.C. area. They accept coins like older traditional meters, however, now they accept credit cards, as well. This will make it more convenient for people, without change, to find parking on main streets. With the global fight for more environmentally friendly policies and projects this could definitely be a keeper. These solar powered meters are taking a test run that could possibly,in the final analyis, end up being instated in all of D.C.
